The Lord prefers to lead through rather than around

Samuel Rutherford, a 17th century Scottish minister wrote: "Whenever I find myself in the cellar of affliction, I always look around for the wine." My apprehension is this: can that particular cask of vintage wine only be found in that particular cellar? When it comes to the Christian journey I observe that the Lord prefers to lead through rather than around. Through the Red Sea. Through the wilderness. Through the Jordan. Through the lions' den. Through the belly of the fish. Through the burning fiery furnace. Through the cross. Through the grave. Through not around. Mercifully whatever He leads us into He leads us out of. - Jonathan Leach
